Activity 3.2.1 - Natural Resources Review

Image
Energy Resources Concept Map:      Energy Resources are different ways of getting energy so that our environment can generate electrical power. Energy is the capacity to do work and is most importantly required for life processes. Above I have made a concept map focusing on energy resources and what the differences are between having renewable sources and non-renewable sources come into effect. Renewable energy, often referred to as “clean energy,”comes from natural sources or processes that are constantly replenished. Non-Renewable sources, or “dirty,” energy includes fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal taking a long time to replenish. Most of the energy we use today comes from fossil fuels, but fossil fuels have a disadvantage in that they are non-renewable on a human time scale. Fossil fuels even though they provide energy for our environment, it can also cause harmful effects to the environment as well. This activity broadened my perspective on how human life is r...

Activity 3.1- Human Population

Image
More Developed Country:  (Western Europe) Country name: Austria   Birth rate: 9  Death rate: 10 Population growth rate (rate of natural increase): -0.1 Life expectancy for males and females: Males (79) & Females (84) Fertility rate (average number of children per childbearing-aged female): 1.4 Gross National Income (GNI): 58,940 Least Developed Country: (South Asia) Country name: Afghanistan  Birth rate: 32 Death rate: 6 Population growth rate (rate of natural increase): 2.6 Life expectancy for males and females: Males (64) & Females (67) Fertility rate (average number of children per childbearing-aged female): 11 Gross National Income (GNI): 2,110 In this activity, I was able to analyze and compare data between two different countries regarding population ecology and human demography amongst the world. Population ecology is the dynamic study of species populations and how the populations interact with the environment  such as birth rates, death rate...

Activity 2.3 - Biosphere and Interconnections

Image
(Concept Map #1: Units of Energy & Energy in Ecosystems, Concept Map #2: The Value of Biodiversity & The Organization of Life, and Concept Map #3: Global Ecosystems) Above I have made individual concept maps focusing on three different topics regarding biosphere and their interconnections. Biosphere is the meaning of different parts of the earth where life exists. Also known as ecosphere, it is the sum of all the ecosystems in an area on the planet where organisms live including the ground and air. The first concept map I made is regarding units of energy & energy transformation, as well as energy in ecosystems. The units of energy first start off with what type of energy, how it can be transferred, and how it is constrained. It then goes more into depth on what force it was due to by producing that energy, leading up to the gravity it is depended on. The right of the map interconnects and displays energy in their own ecosystems and how chemical energy is the start of autot...

Activity 2.2.1- My daily water use

Activity 2.2 - Cryosphere: Portage Glacier, Alaska

Image
Original Photo: 1958 Portage Glacier: 2009 Portage Glacier: 2021     1. Problem:        Above I have provided photos of a glacier called  Portage Glacier  located in Anchorage and Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska U.S. The images above also display what is called a "Cryosphere"  which means due to increasing increments of greenhouse gasses being added to the atmosphere by humans, the snow and ice are melting. The major problem is that there is a concern with economical and environmental uses throughout the world that later become consequences affecting everything around us. Cold regions of our planet influence the entire world's climate, it is an essential thing in a human's daily life.      2. Explanation:     By going more into depth with the impacts that are occuring allowing the cryosphere to happen to our glaciers, I want to give you a brief explanation on some of the things that are affecting this action. The impa...

Activity 2.1 - Climate Change: Reduce Northwest Vista College Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Image
1. Problem        I have been chosen to develop a list of practical options that should be undertaken to reduce Northwest Vista College Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Air pollution can include greenhouse gasses, like carbon monoxide, which can cause climate change. My objective is to piece solutions together to stop the climate from warming. We as a society need to use more clean air and develop energy more efficiently. It will take effort by everyone in society to achieve a future with clean energy and clean transportation. It will also take educational resources for everyone to truly understand and learn on what impact they need to make themselves. I hope these causes and effects provided you to realize the many dynamics we have to change as a society in order to make the world a better place. 2. Investigation     I have investigated the fundamental causes of climate change and the impact it can cause to both the environment and human life. Climate change is c...

Module 1.2 - A Turning Point Event for Environmental Science: Cuyahoga River Burning

Image
https://api.time.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/river.jpeg 1. (Point Of View)       The tragic event on June 22nd, 1969 horrified the residents of Cleveland as an oil slick on Cuyahoga River caught on fire that Sunday morning. When watching, " Celebrating the Comeback of the Burning River, 1969-2019 " video it incorporated tragic narrations from citizens and responders to the scene and how it not only affected them personally but also as a community. The orientation of the video provides many income and environmental issues the residents of Cleveland had gone through in the late 1960's-1970's. Also the improvement through the decades that the society developed and made a positive outcome.  (Links to an external site.) 2. (Purpose)      The purpose, goal, and objective of this video was for viewers to see that growth was developed when Cleveland was going through an environmental degradation as well as an economical income crisis in the year 1969...
